Hawaiian Forest Restoration
Hawaiian native forests have dwindled over the years and now are found only in pockets scattered across the landscape. Where once there were vast forest tracts, non-native invasive weeds, plants and trees have sprung up.
The good news is that, generally speaking, native forests grow rapidly in Hawai‘i. A prime example is the restoration work at the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge. Since 1987 the refuge has planted 329,000 koa seedlings and 50,000 other native tree species.
With your contribution to HiCO2.ORG we can continue the important work of regrowing native forests in Hawai‘i.
